Oswaldo Maciá

Oswaldo Maciá is a Colombian artist based in London, he works primarily with sound and smell. Maciá grew up in Cartagena de Indias where he attended the school of fine arts. He later studied at Llotja school in Barcelona as well as Guildhall and Goldsmith’s College in London. His olfactory-acoustic sculptures have been exhibited all over the world and are held by Tate and other international collections.

His works have been shown in prestigious exhibitions such as Tate Liverpool Biennale, the 51st Venice Biennial, the Shanghai Biennale, the VIII Bienal de La Habana, the Thessaloniki Biennale in 2009, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, and the Whitechapel Gallery. Recently, Maciá’s sound installation, titled Something Going on Above My Head, (1999/2010) was acquired for the permanent collection of Tate Modern in London.

We met Maciá in March 2020, during the opening of Mecarõ | Amazonia in the Petitgas Collection. The exhibition, whose title means “the spirit of the forest” in the Krahô language, was curated by Vincent Honoré with Anna Kerekes and Jacqueline Kok at MO.CO. Montpellier.
