With a background in ceramics, Marxuach Lausell @matilsha is the founder and senior designer of Concalma @shopconcalma,a brand that set out to deliver quality, locally- manufactured designer goods in Puerto Rico. Its inspiration comes from the investigation into and practice of sustainability. For the last 10 years, Concalma has served as a base for approaching the community through a call to action of the promotion of fair trade.

In this interview for TV CHANNEL, she explains the origins of Concalma and the political dimension of this project over the years. Trained in ceramics, Matilsha Marxuach Lausell started designing bags more than 15 years ago, with the idea of creating a portable container. The brand goes against the mass production system; its name, Concalma, which means “with calm”, reflects this idea perfectly The designer strongly believes that it is important to promote the local economy and fair trade. Concalma places great attention on the design and the local manufacturing of each product, as well as the promotion of sustainable practices in Puerto Rico.
