Voice of Experience (Voz da Experiência), 2023
Central to Caccuri’s Voice of Experience is the exploration of the role of technology for our understandings of the past, ancestry, and close relationships through one of the earliest facial recognition technologies and text-to-speech tools in a sound work. Through modifying TTS (text-to-speech) tools, she combined sound recordings of her family members’ voices in order to generate one, new, single voice. Caccuri has developed her family’s digital archive further, and looks at it as a way of tracing her diasporic ancestry. Caccuri asks: “Can Voice of Experience sing? Can it understand the future through a model created for me and my kin? Can it change my future by being an amalgamation of the past?”
