Tropical_Lab is a pioneering digital program conceived as a space for research, experimentation, and collective creation.

The first edition, Atelier des savoirs partagés, took place between September and December 2025. Ten emerging artists from diasporic backgrounds in France were brought together for a cycle of workshops, mentorships, and conversations with renowned curators, artists, and cultural practitioners from around the world.

The selection of the artists was made possible thanks to the generosity and vision of its nominators, internationally acclaimed artists and curators Hou Hanru, Noelia Portela, Minia Biabiany, Armando Andrade Tudela, Ong Jo Lene, and Iván Argote, who proposed the candidates for this edition. From these nominations, a jury composed of the Tropical Papers curatorial team together with the internationally renowned artist and filmmaker Laura Huertas Millán selected the ten participating artists.

With the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, Tropical_Lab reinforces Tropical Papers’ commitment to building artistic communities that are critical, diverse, and open to the world.
